Coronel Oviedo
Coronel Oviedo is the capital of the Caaguazú region and has about 55,000 inhabitants
This is the hometown of the ex-president of Paraguay Nicanor Duarte Frutos. In addition, Coronel Oviedo is the general starting point for the annual pilgrimage to Caacupe. The eponymous General Lino César Oviedo Silva attempted a coup d'état in 1996, but it failed and Señor Oviedo was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
